During the coronavirus pandemic, cancer patients faced a number of problems due to the re-profiling of beds, as well as a lack of drugs and personnel in hospitals. Tatiana Moskalkova, Ombudsman for Human Rights in Russia, spoke about this.

According to Moskalkova, last year the problems faced by cancer patients became more acute. First of all, this was greatly influenced by the spread of coronavirus infection.

It is noted that citizens informed the commissioner that, against the backdrop of the pandemic, it became more difficult to receive planned inpatient care.

- In connection with the re-profiling of institutions to provide assistance to patients with coronavirus infection, it was extremely difficult to be hospitalized routinely for the treatment of cancer, - added Moskalkova.

It is also emphasized that oncological hospitals are faced with the fact that there was a lack of medical personnel.

- The commissioner also received information about the lack of drugs, including for the treatment of cancer, - said the commissioner.

In the near future, it is planned to discuss these problems in the legislative bodies, RIA Novosti reports.
