Patients infected with coronavirus with cardiovascular diseases are at risk of having a heart attack or stroke, since the infection affects blood clotting. The head of the Ministry of Health, Mikhail Murashko, warned about this in an interview with the TV channel "Russia 24".

"The transferred disease often causes a change in the blood coagulation system and can lead to acute disorders, in particular myocardial infarction and strokes," the minister said.

According to him, people with heart disease who have undergone COVID-19 should see a doctor to adjust their therapy.

Earlier, the general director of the National Medical Research Center of Cardiology, the chief freelance cardiologist of the Ministry of Health Sergei Boytsov said that cardiovascular diseases 6 times increase the likelihood of hospitalization for coronavirus infection and 12 times the risk of death. Compared to influenza, the possibility of myocardial infarction in coronavirus increases 2-3 times, stroke - 6-7 times. There is also a risk of thrombosis, myocarditis, arrhythmias and heart failure.
