To fall asleep faster, eat sweet foods four hours before going to bed. This method was named to the Russians by Mikhail Poluektov, a doctor, head of the sleep medicine department of the Kozhevnikov Clinic of Nervous Diseases of the University Clinical Hospital 3, reports the "Moscow" agency.
Foods with a high glycemic index and lots of easily digestible carbohydrates make you fall asleep faster, he said. He pointed out that sweets are less useful "in other ways."
The doctor noted that eating sweets two hours before bedtime or just before bedtime did not have the same effect. However, the effect of sugary foods on sleep quality has not been proven.
It was previously reported that lack of sleep has a detrimental effect on immunity. According to the head of the Center for Sleep Medicine at Lomonosov Moscow State University, Alexander Kalinin, if a person sleeps for less than five hours, his risks of catching a viral infection increase by 250 percent compared to those whose sleep lasts seven to nine hours.
Kalinin recommended normalizing sleep and wakefulness. He also suggested dropping the alarm clock and switching to light gadgets that better help wake up and regulate circadian rhythms.
