Resistance to coronavirus can provide such an indicator as the level of interferons - proteins that create the body's natural defense system. This was told by the director of the Gamaleya Center Alexander Gintsburg, RIA Novosti reports on Wednesday, December 9.
According to him, those who naturally have high levels of all interferons, especially alpha interferons, have resistance to all RNA-containing viruses.
“If a person really, due to some natural changes in hereditary interferon, is produced in high quantities, then he will have resistance,” said Gunzburg.
At the same time, he stressed that the most stable way to protect against COVID-19 is vaccination. “And there is more interferon today, less tomorrow,” said Gunzburg.
Earlier, the director of the Scientific Information Center for the Prevention and Treatment of Viral Infections, immunologist Georgy Vikulov, identified the reasons for the immunity of some to coronavirus. So, according to the specialist, this is possible with genetic resistance to the virus, a certain effect of the immune system.
