The spread of the coronavirus will end in Russia in mid-2021. This prediction was made by Andrey Malyavin, chief freelance pulmonologist of the Ministry of Health in the Central Federal District, secretary general of the Russian Scientific Medical Society of Physicians, in an interview with the Moscow 24 TV channel.
In his opinion, by this time, Russians will practically forget about the COVID-19 pandemic. This will happen due to the formation of herd immunity due to mass vaccination, as well as a large number of people who have been ill, Malyavin explained.
At the same time, the doctor urged not to count on the appearance of a cure for coronavirus in the near future. “This is generally a very big task - the creation of direct antiviral drugs. This is ten years, maybe, if they strain, five years,”he added.
Earlier, Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova estimated the incidence of COVID-19 in Russia. According to her, the situation with the coronavirus remains quite serious, despite the encouraging decrease in the number of new infected. The spread of the infection is complicated by the seasonality - this year the coronavirus has almost ousted the rest of the infections, Golikova added.
