Over the past year, we seem to have learned everything there is to know about viruses and immunity. However, this does not prevent us from successfully using the old-fashioned methods for treating colds. Why with success? Yes, just a cold (in most cases of a viral nature) in people without chronic diseases goes away on its own. Viruses do not care whether you drink plain water or tea with honey and raspberries - the water balance is maintained in both cases, which contributes to recovery. Where did the belief about the medicinal properties of honey come from? Everything is very simple. In the old days, food for people in the countryside was often scarce. Therefore, for a sick person, any sweet food was, first of all, a source of calories necessary for recovery. The therapy is quite simple: the person who caught a cold was freed from hard work, put on the stove and given a warm drink with honey or jam. So his body could direct all its forces to fight the infection. Today we get enough calories with food (and sometimes even a little too much). But honey and raspberry jam are still considered cure for colds. When it comes to disease resistance, the situation is much more confusing. Immunity cannot be strengthened with "magic" pills, an integrated approach is needed. Nutritionist Ekaterina Maslova decided to talk about the complex relationship between antibodies and viruses.
