General practitioner, assistant of the department of polyclinic therapy of the Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University, Viktor Lunev, named the reasons why people can see nightmares in a dream. This was reported by the TV channel "Moscow 24".
According to the doctor, the most common cause of nightmares is overeating, as the digestive system is forced to work instead of rest. "This stimulates the impulses entering the cerebral cortex, which generally increases its activity," Lunev explained. He advised not to eat three to four hours before bedtime, especially heavy food.
Snoring can also affect the occurrence of nightmares, because due to lack of air, the body experiences stress, brain activity increases, and the alternation of sleep phases is disrupted. Restless legs syndrome can interfere with rest at night, which manifests itself in painful sensations, crawling creeps, and a stable desire to move your legs. In this case, the doctor recommends contacting a neurologist.
Also, the causes of nightmares can be diseases such as stomach ulcers, and the use of a number of medications: antidepressants, drugs for arterial hypertension, beta-blockers. In such cases, it is necessary to adjust the therapy or replace the drug.
Lunev named stress as the most common and popular cause of nightmares. Before going to bed, you need to completely calm down and remove all the burden of the past day. Yoga can help with this better than anything else, the specialist noted.
Earlier, the president of the Russian Society of Somnologists, Professor Roman Buzunov named several ways to get rid of nightmares. According to him, the easiest way to sleep well is to have a good day, without stress or overexertion. He noted that abstraction from news and information monitoring will help alleviate psycho-emotional overload.
