Carpal tunnel syndrome is a condition that develops due to pinching, swelling, or pinching of the median nerve in the carpal tunnel. As a rule, it occurs due to the monotonous movements when typing on the keyboard or touching the smartphone screen. This "Arguments and Facts" was told by the candidate of medical sciences, orthopedist Alexander Boykov.
According to him, the first symptom of the disease is numbness of the fingers. At first, discomfort is felt in the morning and passes by noon, but as the problem develops, numbness is felt even at night, and pain, tingling or burning are added to it. “The hand can" lose weight ", there is weakness in the fingers. It becomes difficult to keep your hands on weight, awkwardness in movements and difficulties with using small objects appear, for example, it is worse to write with a ballpoint pen. If you began to drop everything more often, because you cannot hold it in your hands, it is time to sound the alarm,”warned the orthopedist. At advanced stages, there is a high probability of completely losing the sensitivity of the fingers.
Boykov added that preventing the development of the syndrome is easier than treating it. So, it is necessary to engage in physical education and pay attention to the warm-up of the hands. The orthopedist advised to clench and unclench the fingers into a fist, make rotational movements with the hands, or simply relax the hands and shake them in the air. For exercise, you can use special rubber balls with and without spikes. If painful sensations have already appeared, then you can remove them using a special retainer that holds the hand in the correct position.
The doctor also recommended that a computer mouse and a telephone be matched to the size of the palm. So, it is important to pay attention to the fact that when using the mouse, the palm rests firmly on the table, and does not hang in the air. The smartphone, in turn, should not be too large so that you do not have to pull and strain your thumb. According to Boykov, other tools should be used periodically, in particular the touchpad.
Earlier, ophthalmologist Arpine Adamyan said that blue light, or HEV radiation, used in almost all gadgets, negatively affects the body and, in particular, eyesight and skin. This radiation causes irreversible photochemical reactions in the retina that destroy photoreceptors and pigment epithelial cells. In addition, blue light emanating from gadgets leads to premature aging and pigmentation of the skin.
