Russian figure skater Maria Sotskova, who was on the country's Olympic team along with Alina Zagitova and Evgenia Medvedeva, took silver and bronze medals in the Russian championship in fierce competition, and was also second in the Grand Prix finals, was officially disqualified for doping and a fake medical certificate. On March 3, the Russian Figure Skating Federation (FFKKR) announced on its website that the organization's executive committee had decided to suspend Sotskova for ten years. Ineligibility starts on April 6, 2020 and ends on April 5, 2030. President of the FFKKR Alexander Gorshkov, in a commentary to RIA Novosti, confirmed information about a prohibited substance found in the athlete's body. It turned out to be furosemide, a drug that helps to lose weight, as well as quickly remove traces of other prohibited substances from the body. It is curious that the disciplinary committee of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA), in August 2020, found Sotskova guilty, but the FFKKR delayed its decision until March 2021. “The Federation made such a decision, because we cannot change the verdict of the RUSADA disciplinary commission, that's all,” Gorshkov admitted resignedly. "This is the decision of the RUSADA disciplinary committee," confirmed Alexander Kogan, general director of the FFKKR. "The executive committee of the federation decided to disqualify Sotskova on the basis of this." Thus, now the federation has officially completed the execution of sanctions against Sotskova. The question remains: will this somehow affect the further career of the skater, who in December last year announced the recruitment of her group and intended to become a coach? "A recruitment has been announced for the figure skating group under my leadership of athletes from the 1st junior category at the Leader sports school. Together we will be able to train, participate in competitions, pass the category standards and slip tests," the girl promised on Instagram. Also, the participant of the 2018 Olympics is going to take part in the youth festival in Yakutia on March 27, together with other stars of figure skating - Alina Zagitova, Maxim Kovtun and Alexander Samarin. Sotskova does not consider herself guilty of doping. In an interview with Express Gazeta, she explained that she had made the decision to end her career in November 2019 and felt that from that moment on she might not comply with the WADA anti-doping code. However, the doping officers unexpectedly visited her in March 2020, and you should not blame them for this: the skater publicly announced her retirement from the sport only on July 8. In addition, even after such statements, doping officers have the right to test an athlete for some time - this does not turn into an instant alibi. But Sotskova, apparently, did not know about this, or did not consider it necessary to attend to this issue. "I told them that I was no longer an active athlete. Moreover, I did not hide that, as prescribed by doctors, I was taking medications, including furosemide. I did not want to be tested, but they insisted. Furosemide was prescribed to me by the doctors. I was seriously ill - I could not eat and sleep normally. I vomited. At that moment I had already finished skating and informed my coach Svetlana Sokolovskaya about this, "the athlete emphasized. Sotskova also answered the accusations of forging documents: in order to prove the medical necessity of using furosemide, the girl brought a certificate from a clinic that did not have a license. Thus, the paper turned out to be invalid, but the skater denies the fact that she deliberately engaged in fraud."I brought a certificate from the medical institution where I was treated. I was prescribed medications there. How could I know that this clinic does not have a license ?!" - said the athlete. The coach, with whom Sotskova spent the last year of her career, Svetlana Sokolovskaya did not comment on this situation. But Elena Buyanova, who coached the skater for many years before that, spoke out. “Masha, skating with me, participated in the European Championships, the World and the Olympic Games. We were aimed at serious results, she was constantly under the supervision of doctors and always passed all the necessary tests. Of course, I am very disappointed with such actions of Masha. But now the questions are already not to me, but to her subsequent coach Sokolovskaya, "said Buyanova. Tatiana Tarasova, a permanent consultant to the CSKA school and specifically to Buyanova's students, reacted harshly to the scandal. "What comments can there be here? How much can you say to them? Adult people get paid. Well, at least there is some responsibility for themselves? Where did they get furosemide? Why did she drink it? You need to understand that you are substituting not only yourself, but also coach, and, most importantly, the federation. Sotskova does not care how much she is disqualified, because she will no longer play, "Tarasova was indignant. It is hoped that this scandal will not lead to any additional sanctions against the Russian national team. Sotskova herself was worried about this: "I really want my story not to be reflected in our athletes, in the participation of the Russian national team in the Tokyo Olympics. I do not need doping. I have never taken it."
