At the request of the government, the Committee of Specialists in the Field of Immunization of Moldova approved the Russian drug "Sputnik V" and a number of other vaccines for use. According to the press service of the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection of the Republic, such a decision was made on Wednesday in the context of the worsening epidemic situation.
“On the agenda was the use of vaccines against COVID-19 in the Republic of Moldova, which have been successfully developed and demonstrate a high degree of safety and efficacy. The use of vaccines in the Republic of Moldova, authorized in the country of origin, as well as those approved by the World Health Organization (WHO) in emergency conditions (EUL), "- said in the message.
A committee of specialists in the field of immunization of Moldova was formed on the recommendation of WHO from Moldovan experts to provide advisory services to the Ministry of Health on immunization issues. Earlier, the Russian vaccine was registered with the Agency for Medicines and Medical Devices of Moldova, which made it possible for private companies to purchase it. The committee's approval removes the barriers to vaccine procurement by the Moldovan government.
Vaccination of the population was started in Moldova on Tuesday. To date, the republic has received 21.6 thousand doses of AstraZenec from the Romanian government as assistance, and on March 4, about 14.4 thousand more doses of the vaccine are expected through the international COVAX mechanism. The Moldovan parliament announced the decision of the Russian Federation to provide the republic with a batch of covid vaccine in the form of assistance. It is expected to be delivered in March.
