Antibodies to coronavirus are produced worst in the elderly, drinkers, stressed, and taking anti-inflammatory drugs. These groups of the population were named by the director of the Gamaleya Center Alexander Gintsburg, Interfax reports.
According to him, scientists received different data on the development of immunity after the introduction of the vaccine against COVID-19. For example, in citizens over 80 years of age, the immune system is weak and reacts for a long time to vaccination, enzymes work worse, antibodies appear poorly. Some retirees have a better reaction, but usually such people lead a healthy lifestyle, keep fit.
Another category of citizens with a poor defense reaction of the body is alcohol lovers, since alcohol is toxic to any multiplying cell. "If you consume half a glass of whiskey every day without getting drunk and feeling good, the immune system does not react well to it," the virologist explained, noting that all of these factors worsen the effect of any vaccination, not just coronavirus.
He added that constant stress, severe nerve strain, statins (anti-inflammatory drugs) also do not contribute to the production of antibodies. "The percentage, how many of these people [with low levels of antibodies after the introduction of the vaccine], we will see after summing up the statistics on the research results," concluded Gunzburg.
Earlier, the head of the Gamaleya Center said that mass vaccination against COVID-19 in Russia could begin at the place of residence as early as November.
