The Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Welfare (Rospotrebnadzor) has announced a new outbreak of Ebola in the Republic of Guinea. This was reported by the press service of the department.

“The Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Welfare informs about a new outbreak of Ebola in the Republic of Guinea. The Minister of Health of the Republic of Guinea, Remy Lama, said on Saturday that four people have died from the Ebola virus disease in the southeastern region of Nzerekore. These are the first cases since the 2013-2016 epidemic,”the message says.

For example, one of the last victims in the Republic of Guinea is a nurse who fell ill at the end of January and was buried on 1 February. Among those who took part in the burial, eight were found to have symptoms: diarrhea, vomiting and bleeding. Three of them died, four more are in the hospital. One patient left the hospital without permission, but was found and hospitalized in the capital of the Republic of Guinea - Conakry.

WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that WHO has been informed of two suspected Ebola cases in Conakry and is conducting confirmatory testing, and that the WHO Regional Office for Africa and the WHO Country Office are helping with preparedness and response. …

“Rospotrebnadzor took an active part in the elimination of the Ebola outbreak in Guinea in 2013-2016. In the Republic of Guinea, specialists from scientific organizations of Rospotrebnadzor today continue to work at the Russian-Guinea Research Center for Epidemiology and Prevention of Infectious Diseases. The situation remains under the control of Rospotrebnadzor,”the department concluded.
