The specialist noted that if someone gains more than a few kilograms, then this is not fat, but swelling from various pickles, salted fish, pickles, sauerkraut. He explained that such food retains fluid in the body. Alcohol also contributes to this. Many people initially have a high percentage of adipose tissue, and since adipose tissue is hydrophilic and attracts water, they are especially prone to edema, Kalinchev said. "Therefore, all the kilograms that people will gain during these, relatively speaking, two weeks of New Year's feasts and celebrations are primarily water, edema, which after the New Year's holidays," said the nutritionist, noting that with proper nutrition, the edema quickly goes away. The expert also recommended that Russians spend more time outdoors and play sports.
