LDPR leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky proposed introducing weight restrictions for Russian officials and all residents of the country. According to him, the state spends a lot on overweight citizens.

"I said back in 2014, almost seven years ago: let's set 80 kilograms," RIA Novosti quotes the politician.

For Russian officials, Zhirinovsky proposed setting an upper weight limit of 100 kilograms. "And if 120, 150, what is it anyway?" - he expressed dissatisfaction.

The Liberal Democratic Party leader also launched an initiative to educate the country's residents about healthy lifestyles in order to prevent an increase in the number of obese citizens.

Last year, Elena Smirnova, an expert at the Federal Research Center for Nutrition and Biotechnology, stated that obesity is widespread in all regions of Russia: overweight is observed in more than half of the population of each subject.

Note that obese people are at high risk of death with COVID-19: with a body mass index (BMI) of 30-34, mortality is 8.9%, 11.5% with a BMI of 35-39, 13.5% with a BMI over 40.
