According to the results of the All-Russian competition, the Nizhny Novgorod Regional Center for the Prevention and Control of AIDS took first place in the "Breakthrough in Prevention" nomination, the press service of the Governor and the Government of the Nizhny Novgorod Region reports.

On December 3, 2020, the results of the annual all-Russian competition among regional centers for the prevention and control of AIDS and infectious diseases were announced. The Nizhny Novgorod Center has become the best medical organization in Russia fighting HIV and infectious diseases.

“It is this direction of our center's activities - preventive measures - that has received such a high rating among all enterprises in the country,” said Solomon Apoyan, head physician of the Nizhny Novgorod AIDS Center.

According to him, the specialists of the Nizhny Novgorod AIDS Center every year find new opportunities for the development and improvement of the work of the medical institution. He said that they come up with and implement various interesting projects for different segments of the population and age groups: for example, the cartoon "Immuntik" for children under twelve years old, the project "Region52: HIV Test", in which the center's specialists conduct preventive seminars and tests for schoolchildren, students and employees of organizations throughout the region.

The "Best AIDS Center" competition is organized by the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation and is aimed at identifying and encouraging best practices in the field of prevention and informing the population about HIV infection and other concomitant diseases.

In 2020, the winners were determined by experts and representatives of NGOs based on the submitted applications. AIDS Centers competed in five categories. Each of the nominations corresponds to a specific area of activity: work with risk groups, information campaigns in the media, educational projects.
