Body temperature with COVID-19 may not rise in some patients, while in others, on the contrary, it may be high and prolonged. This is due to the peculiarities of the immune response, the amount of the virus that entered the body, the developed complications and the drugs used, explained Tatyana Ruzhentsova, head of the clinical research department of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor, in a conversation with TASS.

She noted that the coronavirus is capable of infecting various organs and internal systems, including the hypothalamus and the endocrine system, which are responsible for heat exchange. “Depending on the degree of their involvement in the infectious process, there may be different indicators of body temperature, including low ones,” the scientist said.

According to her, when the acute phase of the infection passes and the recovery begins, there is a decrease not only in body temperature, but also in blood pressure and heart rate. At this point, many patients feel weak.

Earlier, immunologist-allergist Vladimir Bolibok said that some patients with COVID-19 have an abnormal course of the disease: first, the temperature rises slightly, and then drops sharply to 35 degrees and below.
