Sports commentator Yuri Rozanov fell ill shortly before his death. The wife even had to call an ambulance for him.
According to the Telegram channel Mash, on March 2, the commentator complained that he was having difficulty breathing. The arriving doctors recommended that he be monitored by the attending doctors.
Yuri Rozanov has been fighting lung cancer since 2019. From May to November 2019, he did not go on the air, and then resumed work on the Match TV channel, continuing to receive treatment for cancer. Rozanov died on March 3. He was 59 years old.
The commentator specialized in football and hockey matches, hosted sports shows and programs. In 2012, he was awarded the TEFI prize in the nomination "Sports commentator / host of a sports program."
Honored football coach of Russia, State Duma deputy Valery Gazzaev said that Rozanov was an excellent and objective commentator, whom it was pleasant to listen to.
Nikolai Dolgopolov, President of the Federation of Sports Journalists of Russia (FSJR), Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Rossiyskaya Gazeta, believes that Rozanov has done a lot for the development of sports journalism in Russia. According to him, the commentator was not afraid to give assessments, this was his advantage over his colleagues. Dolgopolov stressed that Rozanov continued to appear at events organized by the federation, even during his illness.
