A study on 50 thousand people revealed the benefits of a certain type of fat in the human body - brown. As it turned out, it reduces the risk of developing many diseases.
There are two types of adipose tissue in humans - white and brown fat. The first plays the role of a keeper of "extra calories", and brown fat cells can be involved in rapid processing into energy. That is, the latter act as a temporary reserve.
Scientists from Rockefeller University decided to find out what else brown fat is good for. Naked Science briefly talks about their large-scale research. It is possible to detect brown fat in an adult's body using tomography. The authors of the work studied the images of 52 thousand patients of the oncology center. Brown fat was found in 10% of them. As it turned out, among these people, diseases, including heart failure, coronary heart disease, high blood pressure, were less likely to be detected.
