The lack of vaccines in the West leads to the emergence of charlatans who offer "miraculous" remedies for a deadly infection. In Germany, some people seriously ill with COVID-19 may end up in hospitals where they are treated with sedatives and without a formalized subscription procedure, ginger-soaked chest compresses and homeopathic pellets containing highly diluted iron particles, presumably derived from falling meteorites. reports the Guardian.
Followers of "spiritual scientist" and self-proclaimed clairvoyant Rudolf Steiner are promoting such treatments to combat the coronavirus because of their alleged "calming effects on the mind and body" and their ability to "strengthen an inner relationship to light." In the meantime, there are no peer-reviewed studies or clinical trials confirming the effectiveness of these drugs, they are not included in the official treatment guidelines issued by the leading German intensive care associations.
However, in Germany, some of these treatments were prescribed to critically ill patients during the pandemic at Steiner hospitals, such as one of a network of 16 clinics in Berlin offering intensive care for COVID-19 patients under the supervision of the prestigious Charite University.
