VLADIVOSTOK, January 21 - RIA Novosti. Russian vaccines against coronavirus should reliably protect for at least a year, but EpiVacCorona may be more promising in terms of the duration of immunity preservation, said a professor at the Far Eastern Federal University, head of the Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology named after G.P. Somova, virologist Mikhail Shchelkanov
"It seems to me that EpiVacCorona is still more promising in terms of the duration of the preservation of immunity, simply because a peptide vaccine with any, even not the strongest adjuvant (immunostimulant or immunomodulator) is a more understandable model for the immune system, an object", - said Shchelkanov at the FEFU Academic Council.
According to him, a peptide vaccine is like the quintessence of classical virological technology, where there is nothing superfluous, only what is needed.
“I think that Russian vaccines should reliably protect for at least a year, if not with humoral antibodies, then the cellular immunity system. And this is quite enough to include the coronavirus component in the seasonal vaccines against ARD in the worst case scenario. The situation is not so bad, not catastrophic. We clearly understand where to go, "- said the scientist.
He also raised the question of which vaccine to choose.
“You need to choose the very first Russian vaccine that will be offered to you, taking into account official recommendations. You don’t have to grimace and say:“Let me get another one.”All vaccines are safe, all vaccines are effective, and all achieve their goal,” added the virologist.
