Indian doctors have made a record number of coronavirus vaccinations in the past 24 hours. More than 347 thousand residents of the country were vaccinated per day, according to data from the Ministry of Health of India (Ministry of Health and Family Welfare).

During the week since the start of the campaign for mass vaccination of the population in the country, 1,390,592 residents of India were vaccinated, TASS reports with reference to the department.

The Ministry of Health notes that the number of people signing up for vaccination is gradually growing, despite the fact that in the first days of vaccination the number of people wishing to be vaccinated was significantly lower than the predicted level.

The Indian authorities launched a mass vaccination of the country's population against coronavirus infection on January 16. The population will be vaccinated in several stages. In the first place, vaccinations are relied on for health workers and workers in other professions in the high-risk area. In the second phase of the vaccination campaign, the vaccine will be made available to people in India over 50 and those suffering from chronic diseases. According to the plans of the Indian authorities, by the middle of the year about 300 million inhabitants of the country will be vaccinated.

Earlier NEWS.ru wrote that in December in India, clinical trials of the Russian vaccine against coronavirus "Sputnik V" on volunteers began.
