Certain illnesses can lead to nightmares. This opinion was expressed by the general practitioner, assistant of the department of polyclinic therapy at the Pirogov Russian National Research Medical University, Viktor Lunev, writes RIA Novosti.
Stomach ulcers, for example, can cause nightmares. According to Lunev, this can happen due to pain syndrome, which causes an inflammatory process of the gastric mucosa.
All this leads to increased stress, a feeling of discomfort, a feeling of pain, which can be exacerbated at night. Just can stimulate nightmares, "- explained the specialist.
Restless legs syndrome, associated with pain in the lower extremities, can be a factor affecting sleep, he said. In such cases, Lunev recommends contacting a neurologist.
Overeating is a common cause of nightmares, the doctor said. According to him, you should not eat three to four hours before bedtime. Snoring, antidepressants and blood pressure medications can also lead to nightmares. The main reason for nightmares, as the specialist clarified, is stress.
