MOSCOW, 13 Feb - PRIME. Treatment of COVID-19 with vitamin C and zinc is not only completely ineffective, but can also harm the body. Taking such therapy does not shorten the duration of the illness. This is written in a scientific article published in the journal JAMNetwork Open.
Scientists conducted an experiment in which 214 test subjects were divided into four groups. Three of them received the specified supplements individually or together, and the fourth received routine care, including rest and antipyretic drugs.
"High doses of zinc gluconate, zinc ascorbic acid (vitamin C), or both, did not reduce the symptoms of SARS-CoV-2," said Cleveland Clinic cardiologist Dr. Milind Desai and the Cleveland Clinic team. At the same time, in the groups that received the supplements, a number of side effects were recorded from too large doses of drugs. These include nausea, diarrhea, and stomach cramps.
We will remind that earlier the CNN television channel reported that taking zinc in the first day after the detection of symptoms of a cold helps to reduce the time of illness by only one day. At the same time, the daily intake of vitamin C should not exceed 75 milligrams for women and 90 for men.
