In four well-known brands of baby food, high levels of toxic heavy metals - arsenic, lead, cadmium, mercury - were found.

The shocking study was published in the US Congress.

"Dangerous levels of toxic metals such as arsenic, lead, cadmium and mercury exist in baby food at levels above what experts and policymakers consider acceptable," a Democratic spokesman told CNN.

Arsenic, lead, cadmium and mercury are among the top 10 WHO chemicals of particular concern. It is noted that these substances by nature can be found in the soil on which crops are grown, but their level can be significantly increased due to industrial pollution and the use of metal-containing pesticides. And even in low concentrations, heavy metals can be very dangerous for children under the age of two. First of all, they affect the brain and can cause some behavioral disturbances, aggression, and a decrease in intelligence.

The baby food ingredients in some products contained up to 91 times more inorganic arsenic, up to 177 times more lead, up to 69 times more cadmium and up to 5 times more mercury allowed in bottled water, the report said, but companies still approved the products for sale. …

At the moment, the congressmen intend to achieve a revision of the production policy of baby food companies and achieve the adoption of relevant standards at the state level.
