The coronavirus pandemic will end by 2022, including through the formation of herd immunity. This forecast was voiced by Vladimir Oberemok, associate professor of the Department of Biochemistry of the Crimean Federal University, virologist, according to the university website.
According to Oberemok, the now observed decline in the incidence is a natural phenomenon, which is associated with a large number of patients who have recovered, herd immunity and vaccinations.
"Small outbreaks of COVID-19 are still possible, but by 2022 the pandemic will end, and in a generation the coronavirus will become no worse than ordinary flu," he said.
Oberemok indicated that the vaccine is suitable for those who have chronic diseases and who are not sure that they can get sick with coronavirus safely. The virologist also noted that many will be re-infected no more than once every three to four years, but the issue of vaccines and drugs will remain relevant for another 10-20 years, but to a lesser extent.
Earlier, the head of the Ministry of Health, Mikhail Murashko, said that the collective immunity of Russians to coronavirus will form in the first half of 2021, the maximum may be affected by July. It depends on the plans for the supply of vaccines and the vaccination itself, he said.
