There is a shortage of coronavirus vaccines in the United States. The administration of President Joe Biden plans to launch a massive campaign to vaccinate Americans, but this is not yet possible.

According to Politico, the limitation of drug doses puts an end to Biden's plans for large-scale vaccination of the population, which he spoke about more than once both during the election race and after taking office as head of the White House. According to the newspaper, it is not worth expecting until spring that vaccines will become generally available to US citizens.

Now in the States, 41.2 million people have administered the first and second doses of the vaccine. More than 59 million doses have been distributed throughout the country. It is noted that the Biden administration seeks to find a compromise in a situation where the vaccine is distributed among certain categories of citizens, while others are forced to wait for their turn.

Representatives of Biden's team emphasize that the development of drugs is proceeding at an accelerated pace, however, the problem of increasing the available doses of the vaccine does not yet allow us to speak of imminent progress in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.

It won't be easy. Vaccinating all Americans is one of the greatest operational challenges we have ever faced, '' said Jeff Zientes, White House COVID-19 Response Coordinator.

At the moment, about 30 million US residents have received at least the first component of the coronavirus vaccine, the vaccination rate is about 1.3 million injections per day. Over the next three weeks, the supply of drugs to the United States is expected to increase by about 20%.

Meanwhile, the United States remains the leader in the number of cases of coronavirus infection in the world. Since the beginning of the pandemic, more than 26.9 million people have been infected with COVID-19 in the States, more than 460 thousand have died.

In addition, as wrote, the British strain of coronavirus is rapidly spreading across the United States. The rate of spread is one third faster than the rates of other mutations in the disease.

The British strain is spreading in the States 35-45% more intensively than other variants of coronavirus mutations. At the same time, the so-called variant B.1.1.7 is more contagious and more often leads to the death of the patient. Scientists urge the US leadership to take action to combat this strain.
