Russian immunologist Vladislav Zhemchugov explained that antibodies to COVID-19 do not completely disappear from the human body, but simply their active production decreases over time.

“Then they still remain, just their production is reduced to a minimum,” he said in an interview with the “360” TV channel.

At the same time, the specialist emphasized that not only antibodies protect against coronavirus, but the entire immune system as a whole. Antibodies, in his opinion, are simply visible quantitatively, it is more convenient to observe them for doctors.

“The decline in antibodies is not only happening after COVID-19. This is a common practice. But protection still remains regardless of antibodies, since immunological memory is preserved. The cells that remain in such a memory will resume their full-scale production when they encounter the coronavirus,”summed up Zhemchugov.

Earlier it was reported that Sergey Voznesensky, Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Infectious Diseases of the RUDN University, told why some people may not get coronavirus infection.

According to him, there are three reasons for this: they have already been ill with another coronavirus, have recently suffered a viral infection, or have local immunity.

According to him, antibodies are a marker showing that the body has met with the causative agent of the disease. He noted that some people are not susceptible to diseases, for example, to HIV.

“With COVID-19, there are many more people like that. It is still at the stage of scientific discussion to conclude unambiguously why they are unresponsive,”Voznesensky said.
