The elderly should first of all get vaccinated against coronavirus infection, since they have a higher risk of a severe course of the disease. This was stated by the head of the Ministry of Health Mikhail Murashko.

Citizens over 60 years of age must be vaccinated against a new coronavirus infection as a priority, RIA Novosti quotes the minister.

Earlier, Olga Tkacheva, the chief freelance geriatrician of the Ministry of Health, said that older people need to be vaccinated, because if they become infected with a coronavirus, their disease can pass in a severe form. She explained that the body of an elderly person cannot “adequately” respond to an encounter with an unfamiliar virus. Pensioners take longer to recover; those who have recovered do not immediately return taste and smell. Elderly people get tired more quickly, experience headaches, and some still have shortness of breath.

As NEWS.ru wrote, Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Vitaly Zverev believes that a new outbreak of coronavirus infection may occur in Russia in the spring. He explained that the immune layer in Russians is still not high enough, so an increase in the incidence can be expected. The specialist noted that with the high rates of vaccination of the population, a significant jump in new cases of the disease may be avoided.
