Vladimir Dorokhov, Head of the Laboratory of Sleep and Wakefulness Neurobiology at the Institute of Higher Nervous Activity and Neurophysiology, Russian Academy of Sciences, spoke about this in an interview with the Moscow Says publication.

“If you sleep for more than 20 minutes, sleep will become deep. It takes time to get out of it completely. This is called sleep inertia. After deep sleep, recovery lasts 20 to 40 minutes. It is inconvenient in working conditions,”the scientist explained. He also added that if a person has an irregular working day, then an hour of sleep will benefit him. Thanks to this rest, he will be able to stay awake until the evening.

In addition, Dorokhov stressed, when calculating the time of daytime sleep, you need to keep in mind the time to recover. This is especially true for people whose jobs are risky - factory workers or drivers.

According to the scientist, it is best to rest in the afternoon - between 13 and 15 o'clock in the afternoon. At this time, as a rule, people become sleepy on their own. As an example, Dorokhov cited an afternoon rest in the army or a siesta in the southern countries of Europe. Such a short nap allows people to remain productive until the evening.

Earlier, Chinese scientists warned of the deadly dangers of naps lasting an hour or more. According to the researchers, there is a direct relationship between daytime sleep and cardiovascular disease.
