You should be much more careful with taking monovitamins, which contain one or two substances in large doses. Uncontrolled intake of such drugs can cause hypervitaminosis.


First of all, you need to be careful with the use of fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, K, which are well absorbed and slowly excreted. The physician emphasized that the most serious problems are caused by hypervitaminosis A and D.

An overdose of vitamin D can cause nausea, vomiting, itchy skin, and excess calcium in the blood and internal organs. In pregnant women, an excess of this vitamin can cause fetal pathology and diseases of the skeletal system in newborns.

Excess vitamin A can cause nausea, vision problems, hair loss, and dysfunction of certain organs.

Hypervitaminosis A also has a teratogenic effect on the fetus in pregnant women. Zhuchkova added that in smokers, high doses of vitamin A increase the risk of lung cancer.

Hypervitaminosis E is less common, but threatens with the occurrence of gastrointestinal tract disorders, weakness, headaches.

An overdose of vitamin K, which regulates the blood clotting process, leads to the breakdown of red blood cells and anemia.

An overdose of water-soluble vitamins (group B, vitamin C) can occur if the recommended dose is exceeded tens or even hundreds of times. Unlike fat-soluble vitamins, they are easier to remove from the body and accumulate less.
