Coronavirus can lead to the development of conjunctivitis and decreased visual acuity. Tatiana Shilova, an ophthalmic surgeon, professor, doctor of medical sciences, spoke about such an unexpected consequence of the infection in a conversation with the Zvezda TV channel.
According to her, the occurrence of conjunctivitis is associated with a change in the mucous membrane of the eyes, which is the "gateway" of the infection. “Moreover, these allergic conjunctivitis, which we hear about already in the post-ovid time, a few weeks after the disease, they can accompany the disease as a whole and during the acute period,” explained Shilova.
In some people, after the coronavirus, vision also deteriorates and changes in the lens occur, the doctor added. We are talking about those patients who have suffered from a moderate or severe illness. Those who have worn prescription glasses for reading are forced to change them to stronger ones.
“Often in the process of this infection, the capacity of the body is depleted. A person who read without glasses has an infection and says that he needs glasses to read. Myopia is increasing, that is, the strength of the glasses is changing,”the doctor said.
In addition, after coronavirus, changes can also occur with intravascular coagulation. According to Shilova, some of her patients have circulatory disorders in the small vessels of the fundus, which in turn leads to a narrowing of the field of vision and the appearance of fogging.
Earlier, Natalya Pshenichnaya, deputy director for clinical and analytical work of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of Rospotrebnadzor, said that coronavirus, especially if it is severe, can lead to such an unexpected consequence as hair loss. This is due to the fact that the body throws all its strength to support vital functions. At the same time, stress, hormonal changes can also be the cause of hair loss.
