A group of scientists engaged in research in the field of bioinformatics at the German University of Tübingen said that they found an enzyme in the human body, without which the new type of coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 cannot actually multiply. This is reported by the German edition of Merkur.

According to a scientist from the University of Tübingen, Andreas Draeger, who is quoted by the publication, without the enzyme guanylactinase 1 (GK1), the coronavirus cannot multiply in the human body.

According to a computer model developed by researchers from the University of Tubing, the GK1 enzyme plays a special role in the multiplication of coronavirus in the human body. The bottom line is that when a virus enters a cell, it makes it produce some substances that become, as it were, a "gateway" for the spread of infection. The GK1 enzyme is the most important of these. When scientists managed to temporarily remove GK1 from the body for the duration of the experiments, the multiplication of the coronavirus stopped.

At the same time, as Andreas Draeger notes, human health does not directly depend on the presence of the enzyme guanylate kinase in the body, so its production can be suspended for a while.

Scientists from the Frangoufer Institute (Hamburg) intend to find out by what means the best way to do this. However, scientists believe that the appearance of the corresponding drugs on the market is unlikely to be expected earlier than the end of 2021.
