MOSCOW, January 13 - RIA Novosti. Dramatic weight loss after plentiful New Year's feasts negatively affects mood and performance. Arthur Garaganov, a clinical psychologist, doctor of psychology, told Sputnik radio how to safely get back in shape.

Any fasting is always stressful for the body. If a person has given himself the opportunity to eat unrestrictedly during the holidays, it will be difficult for him to get out of the permissive regime and embark on the path of weight loss.

The main difficulties and dangers of getting out of the holiday period are that a person is psychologically and physiologically not ready to return to the usual rhythm of life, says Artur Garaganov. He recommends adjusting your carbohydrate intake first.

"A large amount of carbohydrate food keeps the water in the body. We always want something else sweet that will quickly satisfy our need for pleasure - which will provide a quick release of the hormone of pleasure. We need to act gradually - reduce the dose of carbohydrates by at least half," - said Artur Garaganov.

The consequences of overeating during the holidays can be not only extra pounds, but also lethargy and apathy, noted a clinical psychologist. He explained that high-calorie, fatty, floury food keeps us in an apathetic state, gives strength and energy only at the moment when we consume it, and then there is a decline, lethargy.

"Lethargy can be the result of the absence of certain chemicals or an excessive amount of carbohydrates," said Artur Garaganov.

Psychological attitude and motivation are also important for returning to the previous regime. People are ready for some kind of restrictions for the sake of someone or for the sake of something. In order to quickly get out of the regime of festive permissiveness, an incentive is needed, the clinical psychologist believes.

"The issue is being resolved in a comprehensive manner: for what or for whom a person does it, what he wants to get as a result and how ready he is to get out of this state," Artur Garaganov said in an interview with Sputnik radio.
