MOSCOW, December 13 - RIA Novosti. Scientists have come to the conclusion that a ketogenic diet reduces the risk of contracting COVID-19, and if infected, it can protect against its severe form, according to the Times of India.
Experts note that a low carbohydrate content in the diet reduces the percentage of fat and "bad" cholesterol in the body, and also stabilizes blood sugar levels. Experiments have shown that such a diet increases the level of ketone bodies in plasma, which control oxidative stress in the body and have an anti-inflammatory effect.
The scientists also noted that the ketogenic diet promotes the proliferation of cells that carry the receptor for T-lymphocytes and have immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory activities.
"This diet can improve the functioning of adaptive immune cells and reduce the risk associated with COVID-19," the study said.
