Indian authorities have commented on media reports of an outbreak of a new unknown disease in the state of Andhra Pradesh. Reported by RIA Novosti.

Joshi Roy, an inspector for the state's West Godavari County Dolla, said the outbreak was not related to the coronavirus. Authorities suspect water pollution may have been the cause. “We suspect water pollution with heavy metals, organophosphates, pesticides,” he said. According to Roy, the total number of cases exceeded 800, one person died.

Roy added that the authorities are trying to establish the cause of the disease, as well as cope with the panic among the population. At the same time, he noted that all patients underwent computed tomography and passed tests for coronavirus, they revealed a negative result. “Therefore, there is no relationship between these diseases,” the inspector summed up.

An outbreak of an unknown disease was reported on December 6 from the city of Eluru in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. Patients complained of dizziness, headache, epilepsy, sudden fainting, frothing at the mouth, trembling. Tests for coronavirus have come back negative.
