GENEVA, November 12 - RIA Novosti, Elizaveta Isakova. Elderly people and healthcare workers in conditions of COVID-19 should first of all be vaccinated against common flu during the seasonal circulation of the disease, the World Health Organization (WHO) told RIA Novosti.
According to the organization's experts, the joint flu and COVID-19 epidemic could pose big problems for health systems and medical institutions, since both diseases have many similar symptoms.
In this regard, WHO recommends vaccination against influenza in five target groups as a preventive measure.
“Influenza vaccination is the best way to prevent illness and reduce the severity of illness and the societal burden of influenza. Since 2012, WHO has recommended influenza vaccination to five target groups: pregnant women, people with disabilities, the elderly, healthcare workers and children. groups remain important target groups for influenza vaccination, "the WHO told the agency, stressing that people should heed local government vaccination recommendations.
This year, the WHO Strategic Advisory Group of Experts on Immunization (SAGE) also recommended that "among five risk groups, health workers and the elderly should be prioritized for influenza vaccination during the COVID-19 pandemic."
