GENEVA, November 12 - RIA Novosti. Coronavirus COVID-19 and influenza have similar symptoms, but infection with coronavirus can additionally cause loss of sense of taste and smell, as well as shortness of breath and fever over 38 degrees, the World Health Organization told RIA Novosti.

"COVID-19 and the flu have similar symptoms such as cough, runny nose, sore throat, fever, fatigue. However, COVID-19 can cause additional symptoms such as loss of sense of taste and smell, shortness of breath," the WHO noted.

Symptoms of severe COVID-19 include shortness of breath, loss of appetite, persistent chest pain or pressure, fever over 38 degrees, and confusion, according to the organization.

A person with severe symptoms should seek immediate medical attention. Even with mild symptoms of COVID-19, people with chronic diseases, the elderly, children under five, and pregnant women should see doctors.
