VOLGOGRAD, October 24. / TASS /. The number of doses of anticoid plasma made from donated blood of residents of the Volgograd region who recovered from coronavirus infection has doubled since the beginning of October and amounted to 660 units. This was reported to journalists on Saturday by the press service of the regional administration.

"Since the beginning of October, the number of doses of anticoid plasma made from donated blood donated by residents of the Volgograd region who have recovered from a new coronavirus infection has almost doubled - to 660 units," the message says.

According to the regional health committee, about 145 liters of anticoid plasma have already been transfused to the patients of the redesigned infectious diseases hospitals. From one donor, 450 ml of blood is taken, from which, after processing, from 250 to 270 ml of a therapeutic dose of anticoid plasma is obtained. It is transfused taking into account the blood group of the donor and recipient. The preparation time from blood collection to serum dispensing is on average four days.

The Volgograd region, according to the information of the regional health department, was one of the first regions of Russia, which began the procurement of pathogen-reduced anticoid blood plasma. In the Volgograd Regional Blood Center, equipment was purchased and installed for inactivation (partial or complete loss of a biologically active substance or agent of its activity) of pathogens in blood components: this allows the use of blood components without the mandatory four-month quarantine.

The press service of the regional administration noted that the sanitary and epidemiological situation in the region remains tense, but manageable. The operational headquarters under the leadership of Governor Andrei Bocharov operates around the clock. Measures are being taken to maintain a stock of necessary drugs, increase the bed capacity, train and educate medical workers.

According to the operational headquarters, as of October 24, 18,940 cases of new coronavirus infection were registered in the Volgograd region, 194 - over the last day, which is the maximum daily increase for the entire time of the pandemic. After recovery, 16,568 people were discharged from hospitals, and 225 patients were discharged over the past day. 190 people have died.
