Scientists found that such people were hospitalized three and a half times more often, they also needed artificial ventilation 4.5 times more.

- According to the results of the research, it turned out that inflammation in the oral cavity can contribute to a more severe course of the coronavirus, - said Professor Lior Shapira from the Hebrew University in Israel.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, it is especially important to take better care of your teeth and gums, she said. In her opinion, this should become an important part of the recommendations for reducing the risk of severe disease outcomes.

- Periodontitis is a serious form of gum disease. It affects up to half of all adults worldwide, and can spread throughout the body if left untreated, the expert emphasized.

The study itself involved nearly 600 people with COVID-19. Of this number, 40 patients suffered from gum disease. All of them were connected to a ventilator, and some died. In addition, other factors were taken into account for the complications of coronavirus: asthma, heart disease, body mass index, diabetes mellitus, blood pressure and much more.

Meanwhile, Doctor of Medical Sciences and Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences Sergei Kolesnikov told in which case re-vaccination against coronavirus infection may become necessary. At present, in his opinion, no one will be able to predict when collective immunity will appear, “Tsargrad” writes.

At the same time, the expert believes that vaccinations against COVID-19 will be able to accelerate the process of its formation. According to the academician's forecast, by the end of 2021, about half of the population in developed countries will be vaccinated if the rate of vaccination does not decrease.

At the same time, he admits that it may be necessary to be re-vaccinated against coronavirus. This can happen when a new strain of infection appears that is insensitive to developed vaccines.
