In Ukraine, the consumption of antibiotics by the population has recently increased by 5-6 times, the Minister of Health of the country Maxim Stepanov said at a briefing on December 9.
The official noted that people often start taking antibiotics without a doctor's prescription, but on their own, without any reason.
“We have repeatedly emphasized that this should only happen as prescribed by a doctor. Once again, I appeal to the Ukrainians: there is no need to eat antibiotics. Because what happens sometimes is exactly what you eat them. Uncontrolled intake of antibiotics can lead to the development of antibiotic resistance, that is, a decrease in the sensitivity of pathogens to the drug,”Stepanov said.
At the same time, he stressed that the situation with the stock of antibiotics in Ukraine is now under control.
“I held meetings with pharmaceutical companies, we have a controlled situation, medical institutions are provided with a two-three-month supply of antibiotics,” the minister said.
IA REGNUM reminds that on December 1, the Association of Medicines Manufacturers of Ukraine reported that now the country has recorded an abnormal growth in demand for antibiotics, which in some categories has grown 4-10 times. This has led to the fact that some drugs are running out - both in the retail network and in the hospital sector, and there is nowhere to buy them online.
