The factors that increase the risk of contracting any viral infection, including the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, include not only lack of sleep, but also bad habits. Pavel Shumikhin (United Russia), candidate of medical sciences, doctor of the highest category and deputy of the Altai Regional Legislative Assembly, said this in a conversation with a REGNUM correspondent. Commenting on the words of the head of the Sleep Medicine Center of the Lomonosov Moscow State University, Candidate of Medical Sciences Alexander Kalinkin, he explained:

“I fully share the opinion of my colleague about the important role of sleep. Normal sleep is an important component of a healthy lifestyle and, accordingly, makes a significant contribution to the state of human health. With chronic lack of sleep and other sleep disorders, the capabilities of the body's defenses are significantly reduced. This favors both infection and the development of more severe forms of the disease.

It should be noted that this is far from a unique phenomenon. In general, in addition to proper sleep, there are several components of a healthy lifestyle, non-compliance with which leads to a painful condition and increases susceptibility to infection, including coronavirus. This is a rejection of bad habits, reasonable physical activity, proper nutrition, lack of stress."

As reported by IA REGNUM, earlier that a lack of sleep affects the human immune system, which increases the risk of infection, including the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, earlier, the head of the Sleep Medicine Center of Lomonosov Moscow State University announced Medical Sciences Alexander Kalinkin. According to him, if a person sleeps for less than five hours, then the likelihood of contracting any viral infection, including coronavirus, increases for him by 250% compared to those who sleep for more than seven hours.
