Hookah smoking significantly increases the risk of spreading COVID-19 and other infectious diseases. This factor was told by the chief freelance specialist psychiatrist-narcologist of the Ministry of Health of Russia Yevgeny Brun, reports TASS.
Brune blamed the hookahs for the fact that when he smoked the virus could be transmitted through the mouthpiece. He also pointed to close interaction in a group of people who use nicotine and other mixtures in a confined space.
According to the expert, the ban on the operation of hookah bars in Moscow is a justified and timely measure. In the capital, several such establishments were sealed due to violations of the rules introduced by the relevant decree of Mayor Sergei Sobyanin of June 8.
On October 30, amendments to the law "On protecting the health of citizens from the effects of second hand tobacco smoke and the consequences of tobacco consumption" entered into force in Russia - according to them, electronic cigarettes, vapes, hookahs are equated to tobacco products. This means that now they will not be allowed to smoke in public places, like cigarettes, and the ban applies to hookah bars designed as catering establishments.
The Ministry of Construction and the Ministry of Health of Russia proposed to introduce rooms for smoking hookahs and vapes in apartment buildings, previously they could only be created for smoking cigarettes. According to the document, the premises can be created by the general agreement of homeowners. The rooms should have ashtrays, a fire extinguisher, an extractor hood, lighting and a tightly closed door with a smoking area sign. In addition, it is proposed to organize them so that the process of smoking or using a hookah cannot be observed from other common premises. For violation of the requirements, fines of up to 30 thousand rubles for officials and up to 80 thousand for legal entities are envisaged.
