Multilateralism means democracy, as opposed to the one-sided, authoritarian, behavior of some countries, which impedes equitable global development. This was stated by Helene de Paula Buenu, Research Fellow at the BRICS Research Center, University of São Paulo, during the BRICS Symposium on Public Administration, organized by RG and the China International Publishing Corporation.

"In a historical perspective, it is the multilateral development path that has contributed to the successful growth of most states," said Helene de Paula Buenu. The development of equal relations in the modern world order is the key to stable development. However, the expert notes, such calls from developing countries are met with resistance from developed countries.

"Developed countries are actually opposed to this. It is the developing countries that are promoting the idea of democratizing international relations. And therefore we are in favor of reforming international organizations, in particular the UN Security Council, IMF and others. But an effective reform plan has not yet been proposed. More specific proposals are required," - she noted, adding that these changes must be thought out and effective, so one should not hope for their early implementation.
