The chances of contracting coronavirus infection during severe frosts are higher than at above-zero temperatures, said the head of the ENT clinic, candidate of medical sciences, doctor of the highest category Vladimir Zaitsev.
“Frosty air is more viscous. If we are talking about airborne transmission, then a drop of more than five microns goes down, it falls, a drop of less than five microns with exhaled air flies to the interlocutor when he sneezed or breathed. If we are talking about warm, positive weather, then particles five microns in size and above settle quickly enough, and in frosty air, the frost is stronger, in this case the particles fly in the air and the likelihood of being inhaled by another person is higher. Sometimes we even see a white haze from the frosty air, "Zaitsev explained, reports TASS.
He also noted that during a conversation, the chances of infection with coronavirus increase only if the patient sneezes or talks diligently, and the interlocutor at this moment yawns or listens with an open mouth.
According to him, with the onset of frost, people in general are more likely to get sick, and the body is more weakened, since not everyone dresses well and is overcooled. “Against the background of colds and coronavirus infection, it is easier to catch, it is easier to stay in the body and stay there. Therefore, you need immunity, you need to dress warmly and be healthy. If everyone walks weakened, then the likelihood of getting infected is easier,”the scientist emphasized.
Earlier, Vitaly Zverev, Scientific Director of the Mechnikov Research Institute of Vaccines and Serums, said that people with impaired blood circulation, weakened immunity and chronic diseases are most susceptible to severe coronavirus infection.
