If there are enough people who are immune to the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus, the need for medical masks will disappear. This can happen towards the end of spring. This opinion was expressed by the doctor of medical sciences, a specialist in especially dangerous infections, an immunologist Vladislav Zhemchugov.
The expert clarified that the proportion of people with immunity in each specific region should reach 60-70%. "It is necessary to take into account both those who have suffered COVID-19 and those who have been vaccinated. The fastest rate will be achieved in Moscow, because it is already closest to it," the immunologist told Sputnik radio.
Easing restrictions depends on the situation in a particular region and on how many people have not yet been exposed to the virus. In this sense, the speed of vaccination is also important, the expert emphasized. The doctor recalled that while walking in the park in the open air, you can refuse masks, since in nature the likelihood of infection is small.
The stabilization of the situation with coronavirus in Russia was previously reported in Rospotrebnadzor. Recently, experts have noted a steady downward trend in morbidity. This was announced by Natalya Pshenichnaya, deputy director for clinical and analytical work of the Central Research Institute of Epidemiology of the department. According to her, small rises in the incidence of COVID-19 are still possible in late winter - early spring, but still there will be no previous surges, the expert emphasized.
