MEXICO, December 18 - RIA Novosti. The Brazilian Supreme Court allowed the state to "indirectly force" the population to vaccinate against the new coronavirus, if appropriate laws are passed, authorities at various levels will be able to impose restrictions on citizens for refusing to immunize, according to Folha.

"The Federal Supreme Court has decided that the Covid-19 vaccine may be mandatory subject to the relevant law," the publication said following the court hearing.

The panel, when considering the issue of compulsory vaccination of the population, supported Judge Ricardo Lewandowski, who argued that it could be carried out "indirectly", citing as an example the prohibition to visit certain places or engage in certain activities.

At the same time, the judges emphasized that vaccination requires the consent of a person - any decision to forcibly vaccinate people, that is, without their explicit consent, would be a flagrant violation of the constitution.

With this court decision, Brazilian authorities at the state and municipal level were able to impose an obligation on citizens to be vaccinated and impose appropriate restrictions.

The country's government plans to vaccinate the entire population of the country against coronavirus in 2021, using vaccines approved by the national sanitary regulator Anvisa. According to a recent law, Anvis is required to evaluate applications for vaccine candidates already approved by a similar body in another country for no more than 72 hours.

Earlier it was reported that the first batches of coronavirus vaccines produced by AstraZeneca, Sinovac and Pfizer / BioNTech will be shipped to Brazil in January and February. The expected cumulative volume of these shipments is 25 million doses.
