VERONA, October 23rd. / TASS /. The spread of various infections indicates that people may face new challenges in the medium term, said Russian Minister of Health Mikhail Murashko, speaking via video link at the Eurasian Economic Forum.

"The forecast of the situation with the spread of infectious diseases and, in a broader sense, biological threats shows that with a high degree of probability in the medium term one can expect some new challenges, uncommon infections caused by new pathogens, an increase in the number of cases of known infectious diseases, including not typical due to certain climate change, the growth of resistance of microorganisms to antibacterial drugs. It is also important to remember the growing threat of bioterrorism, "the minister said.

Murashko noted that the coronavirus pandemic showed that the country's health system should have not only reserves of stocks of drugs and personal protective equipment, but also ready to deploy and repurpose beds, as well as a scientific base. "In conclusion, I would like to dwell on the key lesson of the pandemic - it is impossible to prepare for something that has never happened before, but it is necessary to have a flexible, manageable system of response to the entire spectrum of threats, which ultimately make up any new challenge," the head of the Ministry of Health concluded. …

Since the beginning of the pandemic, more than 41.7 million people have been infected with the coronavirus in the world, over 1.13 million have died. In Russia, according to the federal operational headquarters for the fight against coronavirus, 1,486,646 cases of infection were registered, 1,119,251 people recovered, 25,525 died.
