Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Gerontology and Geriatrics at the Department of Gerontology and Geriatrics of the Moscow State Medical University, Yuri Konev, told why in our country men live on average less than 8 years after retirement, while women - almost 23 years. This was reported by the agency "Nevskie Novosti".
According to the cardiologist and gerontologist, a combination of two factors plays the main role here: a decrease in physical activity and the preservation of bad habits. After reaching retirement age, physical activity in men almost completely stops, the doctor said. At the same time, bad habits do not disappear anywhere. In this situation, the usual dose of alcoholic beverages, which previously did not cause a visible negative effect, actually turns into poison.
To solve this problem, you need to constantly give the body physical activity, switch to a balanced diet, give up bad habits, emphasizes Yuri Konev. In addition, it is necessary not to neglect medical help in case of health problems, the specialist urged.
