The chief freelance psychiatrist-narcologist of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, Yevgeny Brun, told why you should not sit up on New Year's Eve. He also explained how combining alcohol with candy affects the body. He announced this during a press conference on Tuesday, December 22.

Alcohol sales in Russia proposed to halve

According to Brune, mixing alcoholic beverages with certain foods, especially sweets, is very harmful. He explained that sugar and alcohol will compete with each other in processing, in metabolism. Because of this, the half-life products will be retained in the body. The combination of alcohol with carbonated drinks also has negative consequences, since carbon dioxide increases its absorption into the body, RIA Novosti reports.

Among other things, the expert does not recommend sitting at the table for a long time on New Year's. According to Brune, immobility only intensifies intoxication. He noted that it is not necessary to set a bad example for children in this way. The narcologist stressed that a glass of champagne is a ritual, not a "reason for drinking."

Earlier, "Profile" wrote that Brune identified two exceptional reasons for drinking alcohol. According to him, today alcohol is abused by an average of 10 to 20% of the entire population of Russia. However, it is important to remember about internal responsibility, the specialist added.
