In Russia, patients infected with coronavirus are advised to adhere to the Table 11 therapeutic diet. Its principles can also be followed when choosing products for the New Year's table - you should eat five times a day, refuse fatty and fried foods, as well as those prepared using any oil, alcohol and sweets. Such advice was given in an interview with Vechernyaya Moskva by virologist Andrei Plotnikov.

Table 11 is the simplest therapeutic diet in which all but the fattest foods are available. Dishes are cooked boiled, stewed or baked, fried foods are prohibited, the doctor said. According to Plotnikov, this diet allows you to achieve the absence of problems with the gastrointestinal tract - since during and after illness, the body is depleted, and it needs vitality.

“Patients consume about 3000–3500 kilocalories per day. The calorie intake is specially increased by increasing the consumption of fortified and protein foods, the amount of fats and carbohydrates also increases, but in moderation,”Plotnikov explained. Basically, the patients' diet consists of porridge for breakfast, soup with pasta and buckwheat with cutlet for lunch, vegetable stew for dinner, tea or dried fruit compote. In addition, the Table 11 diet provides for the consumption of a large amount of seafood.

The specialist added that such food will be useful for the prevention of coronavirus. In addition, fluid intake plays an important role - at least one and a half to two liters per day. And the work of the lungs strongly depends on the intake of animal fats into the body with food, so it is not recommended to give them up during a pandemic. Animal fats contain a substance called lung surfactant, which helps the lungs to better absorb and absorb oxygen and stimulate cellular defense functions.

Thanks to the huge amount of protein and fortified food, the body recovers faster during illness, eliminating the impaired functions of internal organs and cells, the specialist noted. He assured that with the help of this diet, hemoglobin increases, immunity is strengthened and the deficiency of nutrients and vitamins is replenished. Such nutrition has always been used for diseases such as tuberculosis, pneumonia and anemia.

In November, nutritionist Olga Grigoryan criticized the Russians' festive table for the New Year. According to her, the food prepared for the New Year is too high in calories and, in combination with alcohol, has a bad effect on the human body.
